Last Word on Bingo Hall Tax

We know we have focussed on the recent bingo hall tax issue for a few weeks now and today this will be our last post on the subject for some time in the future.
The British Government is refusing to back down from their 15% – 22% tax hike, this is very disappointing news for the bingo industry as a whole, as many of our land based bingo halls will be soon be faced with the possibility of closing down due to the financial burden this will cause. As the clubs start to close, not only will many of the bingo industry workers be out of a job but tens-of-thousands of people will have their social existence ripped from under their feet.
This is perhaps the most saddest part of all, that the Government in all their worldly wisdom seem to forget – many communities rely on the local bingo hall as a place to meet their friends and catch up on all the news. Many a good friendship has been forged at the local bingo hall, if their local bingo hall were to close then another aspect of social activity within the local communities would close with it.
The feeling is so strong within many bingo loving communites that at 1 club in Chester the members started sticking pins into voodoo dolls. When questioned on why they were stcicking pins into dolls, one person remarked, “We are stabbing the government in the back, just the same as they have done to the bingo community, they seem to have forgotten the people that helped them back into power”.
Local bingo halls are not just a place for people to go and gamble. They have become much more than that. Lets hope the Government can see this before its too late…
