As expected William Hill are moving there Sports book and Fixed odds operations to the new home of their Chief Executive Henry Birch. Mr Birch moved his family to Gibraltar earlier this year, this move will benefit William Hill in the short term by being able to pay considerably lower tax under the white listing agreement put in place in 2007.

While operating offshore the company will only be paying between 1 and 2 percent in gaming tax compared to the huge 15% in Britain. With William Hill moving offshore experts are predicting that it wont be long till companies such as Ladbrokes will soon follow.

With two of Britain’s biggest online operators moving offshore the Government must surely sit up and notice the possible loss in tax revenue. Jeremy Hunt the shadow culture minister has already started the boat rocking by asking why are companies that are operating offshore, allowed to target British customers with out paying taxes on their income? This might have serious implications to the white listing agreement!

What does this mean to us the online bingo players in Britain?
Most of the online gaming companies have majority players based in Britain, although they operate from offshore ‘tax havens’, if this white listing is to be amended these companies will be forced to pay more tax to the UK Government thus having a knock on effect to the players, less profit less prizes. This is only a may-be situation at the moment – we will bring you more news as we hear it.
